Rajib's journey from labor to learning
At age 8, Rajib worked in the rice fields outside Bolpur, missing school to help support his family after his father’s illness. When Chhayapath identified him during a village outreach program, they provided educational sponsorship, nutritional support and healthcare for his family. Today, at 16, Rajib ranks first in his class and recently won a state-level science competition.
“Before Chhayapath, I had never held a science textbook. Now I dream of becoming a physics professor,” says Rajib, whose younger siblings also attend school regularly thanks to continued support.
Meena finds her voice at Chhayapath
Meena lost both parents to a devastating illness that swept through her village near Shantiniketan. Living with an elderly grandmother who could barely provide one meal daily, Meena stopped speaking and withdrew from school. When Chhayapath’s community workers discovered her situation, they arranged regular food deliveries, counseling and educational support.
Today, Meena not only excels academically but has discovered a talent for Rabindra Sangeet, performing at cultural events throughout Bolpur. “Chhayapath didn’t just feed me-they helped me find my voice again,” says the 14-year-old who now dreams of teaching music to other children.
Ratan builds a future with dignity
For five years, Ratan begged at Bolpur railway station after being abandoned by relatives following his parents’ death. Sleeping on platforms and eating leftover food, his health deteriorated severely. Chhayapath’s night outreach team found him with high fever and brought him to their shelter home.
After medical treatment, nutritional rehabilitation, and psychological support, Ratan entered formal education. Now 17, he has completed vocational training in computer applications and works part-time while finishing school. “Chhayapath gave me dignity and a future I never imagined possible,” says Ratan, who mentors younger children at the center.
Arjun turns hunger into hope
Arjun scavenged food from temple offerings in Shantiniketan after losing his father. At 10, malnourishment had stunted his growth and affected his cognitive development. When Chhayapath workers noticed him during a community assessment, they enrolled him in their nutrition program and educational support services.
The regular meals not only improved his health but revealed his interest in cooking. Today at 15, Arjun attends school while receiving vocational training in culinary arts through Chhayapath’s skill development program. “I once searched for food to survive; now I’m learning to create food that brings joy,” says Arjun, who helps prepare meals for younger children at the center.

As Santiniketan Chhayapath Social Welfare Society is a registered organization under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961 (Registration No. S0036764 of 2023-2024), your donations may be eligible for tax benefits. Our organization is relatively new (registered on July 19, 2023), and we’re actively working on securing all necessary tax exemption certifications.
